Last drill weekend, while driving by the Barrancas National Cemetery
on the Naval Air Station in Pensacola I noticed a light fog hovering over the graves. It was an early Saturday morning
and the whole place was completely desserted. Everything had an eerie dreamlike look and feel - the fog, the early
morning light, the silence - it was beautiful. I had my camera bag with me so I decided to pull over and take a few
shots. |

Walking around in the cemetery I was alone among the dead, yet I could feel them,
thousands of them, watching my every step - Fallen warriors from nearly every war our country has ever fought in
since the civil war. They gave up their lives believing that they could make a difference; hoping that they would
be remembered by grateful generations to come. |

Many died in action, and others died years after returning home. Some died gloriously,
and some were slaughtered in vain. Now, together they rest in eternal peace in this beautiful place. They are all heroes
- Our heroes. |
